Today’s Top 5 Stories You Need to Know About:
1. The community came together on Saturday night at Oliver’s Brewhouse and Grill in Lincoln to remember former employee and domestic violence shooting victim Vita Joga. The evening also functioned as a fundraiser for Stand Against Domestic Violence, a fund created by Joga’s former employer, Matthew Oliver, to assist those struggling with violent home situations. The Stand Against Domestic Violence Go Fund Me page has raised around $11,000 so far. (CBSlocal)
2. Firefighter and paramedic Matthew Rominger of Roseville was remembered and honored at a celebration of his life in Rocklin on Saturday. Rominger died in May after contracting COVID-19, likely from an ambulance ride with an infected patient, according to fire officials. He leaves behind a wife and four children. Several dozen firefighters attended the ceremony, including some from out of state. (FOX40)
3. It looks like the long-awaited Goldfield Trading Post Roseville location may be opening soon, according to events scheduled on their Facebook page. The owners of the popular midtown Sacramento country bar signed a 10-year lease for 238 Vernon St., the former Ninja Sushi location, in December 2020, intending to establish a Roseville venue. It has not opened as of yet, but their Facebook page has acts lined up starting October 1, complete with links to purchase tickets on Eventbrite (SBJ and FTP)
4. Congratulations to Jim Walmsley and Beth Pascall, winners of the Western States Endurance Run that took place on Saturday. This is Walmsley’s third win a row, a feat only accomplished before by two other runners in the men’s division. Pascall, from Great Britain, finished with the second fastest time by a woman in WSE history. The 100-mile, world class race starts at Olympic Valley, near Tahoe, and ends in Auburn. (GCM)
5. A great white shark seriously injured a surfer at Gray Whale Cove State Beach, just south of Pacifica, on Saturday morning around 9:00 am. The surfer was bit on the leg and released by the reportedly 6-8 feet long juvenile shark. The victim swam to shore where a fisherman on the beach fashioned a tourniquet on the victim’s leg. Cal Fire units arrived and transported the victim to a nearby hospital. The beach was closed by park officials who posted signs warning swimmers to stay out of the water for two days. (CBSlocal)

About me
My name is Kelly Mays Risse, and I have lived in Roseville just about all my life. I graduated from Roseville High School majored in Journalism at CSU Sacramento. If you recognize me, it may be from St. Clare Church, where I have worked for the past 10 years. Or maybe from the myriad activities my husband and I have been part of while raising our three boys here. I have watched Roseville grow from a cheerful little railroad town to a large and diverse city. I love where we live, from the hiking trails to the hip new restaurants, and the people who live here. I am excited to bring the highlights to you!
