- The City of Roseville is currently recruiting for high school students interested in serving as a youth representative on the City’s Library Board, Grants Advisory Commission, Parks & Recreation Commission, and Transportation Commission. What a great opportunity for our area teens! Applications are due to the City Clerk’s Office by 12 p.m., Friday, October 29, 2021. The gig runs throughout the 2022 calendar year and no experience is necessary. (City of Roseville)
- Students and staff at Placer High School were asked to shelter in place Wednesday after a bear found its way into a tree at nearby School Park. The high school was locked down for an hour, but after the Department of Fish and Wildlife Warden Kyle Glau went to the area, he determined that the bear was acting normally and did not pose a threat. As a precaution, the city closed the park and taped off the entrances while officials waited for the bear to leave of his own volition. “We’ll name this bear the Endurance Bear for the amount of time that it’s going to stay up in that tree waiting for everybody to go away so it can go home,” said Auburn Police Chief Ryan Kinnan. - De La Salle is a high school in Concord, California that hasn't lost a game in 30 years... until last week when it was beaten by Mountain View's Saint Francis. Why do I tell you this? Because that loss enabled the Folsom High School Bulldogs to become the No. 1 high school football team in Northern California! It truly is a great day to be a Bulldog! (MaxPreps)
- A suspected Placer County sex trafficker is now in the custody of the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Placer County sheriffs aided in the arrest of Jeremiah Stark, 38 of Tahoe Vista. He has been released into the custody of the FBI. (ABC10)
- The Placer Resource Conservation District announced that CAL FIRE awarded funding for Phase II of the North Fork American River Shaded Fuel Break. Funding was awarded in the amount of $4,558,000 as part of the Early Action General Fund to complete project objectives within five years. The project will focus on landscape fuel reduction between North American River Canyon and the adjacent communities of Placer County. The project footprint is strategically designed to alter fire behavior, improve suppression efforts and protect our communities and forests from the effects of a devastating wildfire. - You've heard of craft beer, but craft wine? It's called "natural wine" and it's been a thing in Europe for decades. It's coming, slowly, to the Capital region and at least one wine buyer thinks Sacramento and the surrounding areas could become a the largest natural wine hub in the world. That's because natural wine is a movement inspired by wine’s pre-industrial roots with tenets that include using organic grapes, avoiding additives and fermenting with native yeast instead of purchased strains. It's perfect for our little wineries in the foothills and wine makers are taking note. (Comstock's Magazine)
