- Lots of good work was rewarded by Soroptimist International (SI) Loomis Basin. The group gave out $10,000 in awards at a ceremony on February 15. Award recipients ranged from Del Oro High students who made a difference during the pandemic, to mothers who are making a difference for their kids and the broader society by returning to school and pursuing their passions. - Did you make it to The Venue at Thunder Valley for the opening weekend? Fans who shelled out the big bucks to see The Eagles, Bruno Mars and Santana had nothing but great things to say about the new indoor digs at the casino. John Bow, Thunder Valley’s entertainment director, says The Venue expects to have 80 to 90 shows per year in the climate-controlled theater, with the number climbing each year. "Some of the upcoming acts include The Beach Boys, Sarah Silverman, Sammy Hagar, Kevin James and John Fogerty." (Comstock's Magazine)
- Get Axed, in Granite Bay, closed after less than six months of operation. The location is now vacant and advertised as a "turnkey" restaurant property. Get Axed in Lincoln is still in operation. (Sacramento Bee via MSN)
- The Placer County Board of Supervisors reviewed a list of potential projects for "earmark" funding. Earmarks are funds that are approved by the U.S. Congress as part of other spending bills, so they don't need a direct vote. After a lengthy debate, the board prioritized the spending projects this way: "forest treatment projects, constructing a biomass facility, making improvements for Sheridan water reliability and connecting those who are ordered to pay child support with employment services, like resume writing, interviewing skill and skills assessment."
