Here are the top stories today in Roseville:
- Placer County residents recently got some news we can all feel good about – literally. Our fair county ranked number one in California on U.S. News & World Reports Healthiest Communities 2021 list. We are also listed 35 out of 3,000 counties in the nation. The magazine teamed up with researchers from the University of Missouri, the Aetna Foundation and other health experts to measure data on education, housing, nutrition, environment, equity and other health factors. - Local entrepreneurs will soon have a new resource to bring their business aspirations to life. Roseville native son and founder of HaneyBiz, Mark Haney, is launching The Sacramento Growth Factory, a funded accelerator that will support early-stage entrepreneurs with access to mentors (local and international), office space, support services, partners and potential money. (StartUpSac)
- In the weeks leading up to the 4th of July holiday, Cal Fire has seized nearly 80,000 pounds of illegal fireworks headed to California over the border from Nevada, officials announced on Thursday. They have also issued 215 citations and made three arrests as part of a concerted effort this year to stem the flow of illegal fireworks into the state. Anyone found possessing or using illegal fireworks can be fined $50,000 or spend up to one year in jail. (SacBee)
- Getting to the Bay Area and all those lovely NorCal beaches could get a lot easier as Caltrans and civic leaders hatch a plan to add toll lanes on I-80 from the Yolo/Solano County line to Sacramento. Targeting the paralyzing traffic along the route and the hazardous environmental effects of idling cars, the toll roads allow travelers and commuters to pay for the privilege of using the extra lanes. So far, the region has been awarded an $85.9 million grant from the US Dept. of Transportation to kickstart the project. (CBSSac)
- Congratulations to Sacramento Kings point guard Tyrese Haliburton for making the 2021 USA Men’s Select Team. He will travel to Las Vegas next week to train with the rest of the squad as it prepares for the Olympic Summer Games in Tokyo. 21-year-old Haliburton has had an amazing first year with the Kings, making the NBA All-Rookie First Team and being selected as a finalist for Rookie of the Year. He ended this season injured with a hyperextended knee that he does not believe will hinder him playing in the Olympics. (SacBee)

— Kelly Risse
About me: My name is Kelly Mays Risse, and I have lived in Roseville just about all my life. I graduated from Roseville High School majored in Journalism at CSU Sacramento. If you recognize me, it may be from St. Clare Church, where I worked the past 10 years. Or maybe from the myriad activities my husband and I have been part of while raising our three boys here. I have watched Roseville grow from a cheerful little railroad town to a large and diverse city. I love where we live, from the hiking trails to the hip new restaurants, and the people who live here. I am excited to bring the highlights to you in the Roseville Daily!
