Why Kids Need Braces

Kids may require braces if they have crooked teeth, misaligned jaws, or sport some bad oral habits.

The benefits of braces are best received as early in life as possible. In certain cases, the advantages of early treatment are especially apparent. Here are some of the reasons why kids may need to be treated by our orthodontist in Rocklin.

Oral Health Problems

Crooked teeth are more prone to numerous oral health issues. For some kids, ongoing problems with cavities and gum disease indicate that orthodontic care is required.

Functional Difficulties

With misaligned teeth and jaws, normal chewing and speaking may be challenging. This can impact health, as well as social opportunities.

Appearance

Straight teeth look better than crooked ones. Once treatment is complete, kids may have more confidence in their appearance and may experience more positive interactions with their peers.

Bad Oral Habits

If kids engage in certain oral habits, they are at higher risk of poor orofacial development. Thumb sucking, mouth breathing, and pacifier use are among habits that can cause bite problems that require braces can resolve.

Braces work well at any age, but braces for kids actually tend to work more quickly than for adults. After treatment is complete, kids can enjoy their new smile for life. Parents can schedule a consultation with our dentist to find out if their kids need braces or similar appliance.
