  1. Reports abound of cracked windshields and worse on Highway 65 and Interstate 80. Drivers say debris on the roadway increased after the January storms. Auto body shops in the area are also noticing an uptick in business for window repairs and replacements. "If drivers would like to file a claim with Caltrans, click here." (CBS News)
  2. Sierra College’s mission is to ensure "student success for all while closing equity and achievement gaps." Sierra College Foundation went a long way toward that goal in 2022, awarding $300,000 in scholarships. For information about Sierra College Foundation, visit: www.sierracollege.edu/foundation (Roseville Today)
  3. Placer County may be getting a forensic crime lab. The Placer Board of Supervisors unanimously voted to approve Phase 2 consulting services for the project. Currently blood sample processing can take 9 - 12 months "or more," according to Amanda Flaa, management analyst for Placer County. “We have an opportunity to create something that no one else has done,” District Attorney Morgan Gire said. “A crime lab in a sort of teaching hospital-type mode that will allow research, will allow interns and allow Sac State to partner with Placer County for us to really do some cutting-edge forensic services.” (Gold Country Media)
  4. Did you know that Folsom Prison had a death row? The last person executed there met his demise on Dec. 3, 1937. Apparently, the inmate, Charles McGuire, killed a man in Sacramento and then boarded a train for Roseville, where he dined with a friend. That friend turned him in, and McGuire was convicted and sent to Folsom Prison, where he was later executed. (KTXL FOX 40 Sacramento)
