Here are the top stories today in Roseville:
- Sacramento Magazine gave some much deserved recognition to one Roseville man (and his family) who is fighting hunger and obesity one meal at time. Gopal Kapur’s non-profit, Family Green Survival, creates and distributes healthful, easy-to-prepare meals to food banks, other service organizations and college food pantries through its BagOfLife Program. I checked out the Family Green Survival website and found a great podcast on nutrition, healthy recipes and other cool features. Heroes are among us! (Sacramento Magazine)
- Another notable Rosevillian this week is Roseville High School senior Ian Peterson. The multi-position player on RHS’s varsity football team had a phenomenal game last week against Inderkum with three field goals - one from 37 yards to win the game – and was named Cal-Hi Sports Northern California’s Special Teams Player of the Week. Nice job, Ian! (Cal-Hi Sports and Facebook)
- The days of al fresco dining in Downtown Roseville will end early next week with the removal of the outdoor dining decks along Vernon Street. Portions of the street will be closed for the dismantling and clean-up. Vernon Street (between Lincoln and Taylor Streets), and S. Grant Street (between Atlantic and Oak Streets) will be closed 4:00 am - 3:00 pm on Monday, November 8th. Church Street (between Washington Boulevard and Lincoln Street) will be closed 5:00 am - 3:00 pm on Tuesday, November 9th. (Go Downtown Roseville)
- Did you know that you can access free job skills and professional development training through our Roseville Public Library? As part of the America Rescue Plan implemented to aid economic recovery after the COVID-19 shutdown, and in partnership with the California State Library, access to these platforms will be provided for one full year. Offerings include resources for small business startup, digital skill building, test prep, certifications and more! (What’s Happening in Roseville)
- While we keep seeing gloom-and-doom rankings about how unaffordable the Sacramento/South Placer region has become for local homebuyers, a news segment yesterday interviewing local real estate experts claimed there's more to the story. KCRA 3's financial expert, Kelly Brothers, says that the recent list compiled by Knock did not take Bay Area transplants into account. Also left out of the rubric was the resale market, where according to Redfin, the median price for a home is $200,000 less that Knock quoted for new homes. (KCRA 3)
