The good news is it will be cooler today. The bad news is we are still going to be roasting at an expected high of 105 degrees. The low tonight will be about 68. Sunday will see a little more relief with an expected high of 101 and a low of 63. Humidity will be about 10% on Saturday and 26% on Sunday.

Today’s Top 5 Stories You Need to Know About:

  • Some of the lingering confusion over face mask rules was addressed, at least for the workplace, by the California Division of Occupational Safety and Health (Cal/OSHA) this week. The three main tenets of the of the new Cal/OSHA rules state that vaccinated employees do not have to wear masks indoors (except for some places like hospitals), unvaccinated employees must still wear face masks indoors, and face masks are not required of anyone, regardless of vaccination status, outdoors. (ABC)
  • Juneteenth, also known as Black Independence Day and Emancipation Day, has become our nation’s 11th federal holiday. In a rare show of bi-partisanship, the bill to establish the new holiday passed both houses of Congress with ease. The date marks the end of slavery in the U.S. when Union General Gordon Granger arrived in Texas to inform enslaved African Americans there that they were free, two years after President Lincoln signed the Emancipation Proclamation. (NBCnews)
  • Roseville has one more way to cool off during these hot, hot days of summer. Handel’s Homemade Ice Cream is open and serving up its special brand of ice cream, yogurt and sherbets. The shop is located in suite 100 in the Ridge at Creekside shopping center. (SBJ)
  • Congratulations to Sacramento Kings guard Tyrese Haliburton on making the NBA All-Rookie First Team! The 21-year-old also came in third for Rookie of the Year after an outstanding first year in the NBA. (SacBee)
  • It’s raining cats and … well, kittens actually at Placer County Animal Services in Auburn. The shelter has seen a nearly 25% increase in the number of kittens taken in this year. Because of their immature immune systems, the kittens' health is at risk in a shelter environment. Foster families are needed to care for and socialize these little guys so they can eventually be adopted. (PCAS)

About me

My name is Kelly Mays Risse, and I have lived in Roseville just about all my life. I graduated from Roseville High School majored in Journalism at CSU Sacramento. If you recognize me, it may be from St. Clare Church, where I worked the past 10 years. Or maybe from the myriad activities my husband and I have been part of while raising our three boys here. I have watched Roseville grow from a cheerful little railroad town to a large and diverse city. I love where we live, from the hiking trails to the hip new restaurants, and the people who live here. I am excited to bring the highlights to you!
