Happy Saturday, Roseville!

Let's get you all caught up and ready to make the most of the weekend.

First, you need to know about this weekend's weather:

Temperatures are looking to be awesome with expected highs of 82 today, 85 on Sunday and 87 on Monday. Overnight lows will be about 57 for all three days. Humidity will be a little high at around 50%-65%, but maybe that will help our fire crews (always looking for that silver lining). Winds will be in the 5-10 mph range.

After another "unhealthy" day yesterday, the Air Quality Index is predicting more moderate air for the weekend. Fingers crossed!

Here are the top stories in Roseville today:

  1. The 2nd Annual Roseville Utilities Youth Art Contest has selected its finalists and need your help to judge the last round. Click on the links for each of the three age groups and vote for your favorite entries. Voting is live until August 27. (City of Roseville)
  2. If you are friends with our Roseville Police, either on social media or in real life, you know that they are shining a spotlight on the dangers of underage vaping. Informational posts and a committed School Resource Officer, Officer Ann Marie Howland, are getting the word out to parents and tween-aged students about the health risks and the insidious marketing used to get young people to vape. (What's Happening in Roseville and Roseville Police Facebook)
  3. As it often happens in times of trial, we see best of humanity step into the gap. Two local chapters of The Salvation Army have mobilized to care for those displaced by the Dixie and Caldor Fires. Crews of employees and volunteers from Roseville and Auburn have been on the scene at evacuation centers for both disasters, serving hundreds of meals a day to the fire refugees. You can support their efforts by donating at TSAWildfireRelief.org. (Roseville Today and Action News Now)
  4. If you are one of the 3% of Americans who are immunocompromised, The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has given the go-ahead for an additional dose of the Pfizer or Moderna COVID-19 vaccine. The third shot is intended to bolster the protection in people who's immune system may not have "responded optimally" to the first two doses. Local CVS, Rite-Aid and Walgreens pharmacies are all currently offering walk-in appointments, with pre-registration options online. The third shots are free. (CBS News)
  5. Sadly, the U.S. Forest Service (USFS) has announced that nine national forests in Northern California will temporarily close in response to extreme fire conditions. The California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW) will also close seven of its properties near the USFS areas to support firefighting efforts and maintain civilian safety. Options are being explored to refund fees paid by hunters for big game tags. (Ca.Gov)
