Allstate agency owners to earn grant for Sacramento’s Saint John’s Program for Real Change

The Allstate Foundation grant to support nonprofit's work to unleash the potential of mothers in crisis to improve their quality of life

SACRAMENTO, California, October 17 – Allstate agency owners from the Sacramento area will come together to secure an Allstate Foundation Helping Hands® grant to benefit St. John’s Program for Real Change by volunteering their time during a reverse chef dinner at Saint John’s Plates Café on October 26.

The grant will support the nonprofit organization’s mission to reduce the number of families in the community who are experiencing poverty, homelessness and abuse by improving their social, emotional and physical health while also providing housing, transportation, childcare and employment training. Saint John’s Program for Real Change is the largest shelter in the Sacramento region and the only one focused exclusively on serving women and children.

Once a month a guest chef from a renowned local restaurant serves a multi-course dinner at Saint John’s Plates Café to raise funds for the nonprofit and provide the mothers going through the Saint John’s program hands-on job training in the hospitality industry. During the Oct. 26 reverse chef dinner, Allstate volunteers will turn the tables to prepare and serve dinner to the mothers who work at Saint John’s Plates Café to honor their progress and achievements. Participating agency owners will each earn $1,000 for Saint John’s Program for Real Change, which the nonprofit will use to further its work in the community.

“As small business owners and community leaders, Allstate agency owners and financial specialists see firsthand the opportunities and challenges facing the communities they serve,” said Phil Telgenhoff, Allstate Field Senior Vice President. “Giving back is core to who we are, which is why we’re proud to volunteer our time to raise funds for Saint John’s Program for Real Change while also celebrating the efforts of the women working hard to gain job skills and training to further strengthen their lives.”
