Weather forecast:
1. New video shows chaos as gunfire erupts at Sacramento park gathering (kcra.com) — Four people were injured when gunfire erupted during a massive, unauthorized gathering at Howe Park in Sacramento on Saturday evening, sending crowds running for safety. Deputies are still investigating, having detained three people and recovered a firearm from a vehicle in Fairfield, but no suspects or motive have been confirmed. Authorities are urging anyone with information to contact the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office.
2. Former UC Davis star Tanner Murray returns to Sacramento weeks after MLB debut (fox40.com) — Sacramento-area baseball fans just saw former UC Davis star Tanner Murray return to town as his Chicago White Sox opened a series against the A’s at West Sacramento’s Sutter Health Park. Fresh off his MLB debut, Murray called the packed crowds, upgraded field, and chance to reconnect with Davis friends and coaches a surreal full-circle moment.
3. ‘People in this area deserve something like this': West Sacramento approves $48 million contract for Bryte Park transformation (fox40.com) — West Sacramento’s largest park, Bryte Park, is about to undergo a $48 million transformation that will add new sports fields, a community pool, dog park, and splash pad just across the river from Sacramento. Longtime residents say the long-planned upgrade will finally bring long-awaited attention and amenities to this historically overlooked neighborhood. Construction is scheduled to begin this summer, so current park features are still briefly available.
4. From the Landing at Leidesdorff to Leidesdorff Plaza our Golden Jubilee comes to life (indybay.org) — A deep dive into the 1800s Rancho Río de los Americanos traces how land east of Sacramento, including today’s Rancho Cordova and Folsom, passed from William Leidesdorff to Joseph Folsom. The story follows court battles, surveys, and development that shaped modern Sacramento County and culminates in the mid‑20th‑century dedication of Leidesdorff Plaza.
5. California bill targeting concert ticket resale price gouging advances (fox40.com) — State lawmakers meeting in Sacramento are advancing AB 1720, a “Fans First” bill that would cap concert ticket resale prices at 10% above face value, including fees. Supporters say the measure, spurred by an antitrust ruling against Live Nation–Ticketmaster, would curb extreme markups driven by scalpers and bots. The proposal now heads to the Assembly Appropriations Committee.
