Today's riddle: What gets wetter & wetter as it dries? 🤔 (Answer below!)
Weather forecast:
1. Passenger dies after vehicle hits parked car near Sacramento elementary school (sacbee.com) — A woman died Wednesday afternoon after being ejected from a vehicle that hit a parked car near Prairie Elementary School on Valley Hi Drive in Sacramento’s Valley Hi/North Laguna neighborhood. Sacramento police say major collision and crime scene investigators are examining what led up to the crash, and the coroner will release the victim’s identity after family notification.
2. Middle class woes, Sacramento job cuts and CA ski passes. Your 4/29 evening roundup (sacbee.com) — Sacramento’s proposed budget would cut 46 filled city jobs and nearly 100 vacant positions to close a growing deficit, while a major East Sacramento apartment project just won fast-track approval under a new state housing law. Residents are also watching how six-figure incomes still count as lower middle class in California, plus early-bird deals on 2026–27 ski passes and expanded mobile ID options.
3. Sacramento residents say parking permit backlog is leading to costly citations (kcra.com) — Sacramento residents in Midtown and downtown are facing parking tickets while they wait weeks for the city to process residential permit renewals, with fines running up to $80 per citation. The city acknowledges a backlog and is offering an in-person permit assistance clinic this Friday morning, but many working residents say the weekday hours are impractical and want temporary permit extensions instead.
4. May 2026 California Department of Fish and Wildlife Calendar (ca.gov) — Sacramento families can sign up now for free “Fishing in the City” youth clinics at Granite Regional Park and other local parks, teaching kids ages 5-15 how to fish and care for waterways. May also brings public Fish and Game Commission meetings in downtown Sacramento and family-friendly tours and kids’ programs at Nimbus Fish Hatchery in nearby Gold River.
5. Suspects arrested in Sacramento felony assault after follow-up investigation (fox40.com) — Sacramento police arrested multiple people after a victim was reportedly pistol-whipped in a business parking lot on West El Camino Avenue, following a follow-up investigation that traced suspects to Garaventa Way. Working with the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office, officers linked a stopped vehicle to the case, recovered firearms, and booked the individuals on suspicion of felony assault and conspiracy while the investigation continues.
