1. Homelessness Response Report: Council approves contracts to continue shelter operations and services (sacramentocityexpress.com) — Sacramento’s City Council just approved multi‑year contracts to keep key homeless shelters and tiny home sites operating, including Meadowview, X Street, Grove Avenue, and Roseville Road. These programs serve women, young adults, and other vulnerable residents with shelter, case management, and housing navigation, while the city’s Incident Management Team continues large‑scale outreach and cleanups across hundreds of locations.    

2. Cancy McArn announced as new permanent superintendent of Sacramento City Unified (sacbee.com) — Sacramento City Unified has officially named longtime district leader Cancy McArn as its permanent superintendent after several months in the interim role. Her appointment follows the sudden February resignation of former superintendent Lisa Allen and comes as the district continues navigating fiscal challenges and leadership questions important to local families.    

3. Sacramento County deputies in standoff with domestic violence suspect, sheriff says (kcra.com) — Sacramento County deputies and a SWAT team are in an active standoff with a man barricaded inside a Washburn Way home after a reported domestic violence incident, and nearby residents have been evacuated. Officials say the victim has serious but non-life-threatening injuries and has been hospitalized, while it remains unclear whether the suspect is armed as authorities work to resolve the situation.    

4. $37M Midtown rail station could connect Sacramento to Bay Area, Central Valley by 2031 (kcra.com) — A $37 million passenger rail station is planned for midtown Sacramento near 19th and Q streets, restoring local rail service for the first time in over 50 years. The project would link Sacramento riders to the Central Valley, ACE trains to the Bay Area, and Amtrak San Joaquins, with construction eyed for 2028 completion and passenger service around 2031.    

5. X Games Announces Sacramento 2026 Headliners (digitalmusicnews.com) — Sacramento is set to host MoonPay X Games from June 26–28 at Cal Expo, featuring more than 100 top skateboard, BMX and Moto X athletes. Big-name music headliners Kaskade, Mustard and Subtronics will anchor nightly concerts, with tickets already on sale and prices set to rise as inventory sells out.
