Sacramento area sees first Fire Weather Watch of the year (abc10.com) — Sacramento residents face the season’s first Fire Weather Watch this weekend, with strong north winds and dry vegetation raising wildfire risk across the valley. Local meteorologists and Sacramento Fire officials urge you to clear overgrown brush, mow before 10 a.m., avoid sparks from equipment or vehicles on dry grass, and practice extra fire safety as conditions worsen Saturday afternoon.
3. Sacramento DA: Man convicted of second-degree murder in 2023 Rancho Cordova stabbing (abc10.com) — Sacramento’s district attorney reports a jury has convicted Roderick Earl Sowells of second-degree murder for a 2023 stabbing in nearby Rancho Cordova, with sentencing set for July 17, 2026. Prosecutors say a confrontation escalated after Sowells was hit with a glass bottle, ending with the victim being stabbed multiple times and later dying at the hospital.
4. Woman arrested in relation to shooting in south Sacramento, police say (kcra.com) — Police say a woman has been arrested after a shooting in south Sacramento near Stockton Boulevard and Fruitridge Road, where a victim was found with at least one gunshot wound. The victim’s injuries are considered non-life-threatening, and Sacramento officers remain on scene investigating what led up to the incident.
5. CA Orgs Champion Family as Prevention Against Social Ills (ccpulse.org) — A major statewide gathering in Sacramento on April 23 brought hundreds of community organizations together to focus on strengthening families as a way to prevent homelessness, substance abuse, and social breakdown.
