Backed by $48 million in state, federal, and county grants, the effort improves groundwater protection, public health, and even local roads through coordinated infrastructure upgrades.

Zoo leaders say they’re committed to being good community partners as updated concept drawings head to the city for ongoing talks about the zoo’s future in the park.    

4. Highlands Charter School announces layoffs days after county vote keeps school open (abc10.com) — Sacramento residents should know that Highlands Community Charter and Technical Schools is laying off about 79 employees just days after the Sacramento County Board of Education voted to keep the school open. The move follows a critical state audit over taxpayer funds and oversight, while new leadership promises reforms, long-term stability, and a fresh charter application as local unions continue to raise accountability concerns.    

5. Mariners make it easy, win 4-1 (lookoutlanding.com) — A packed night at Sutter Health Park in Sacramento saw the Seattle Mariners top the A’s 4–1 behind a dominant start from Emerson Hancock and an 11-hit outburst. Fans watched Mitch Garver, Victor Robles, and Julio Rodríguez power the offense while a rested bullpen closed things out, giving Sacramento spectators a clean, efficient win.
