New collaboration based on Catholic social teaching prepares students for public service (ewtnnews.com) — Sacramento families affected by recent Catholic school consolidations are launching Alphonse Gallegos Academy, an independent, faith-based co-op now enrolling for the 2026–27 school year. The school aims to provide a full-day, teacher-guided program rooted in Catholic-inspired values, even though it operates outside the diocese. The article also notes national Catholic education initiatives and partnerships.    

2. Suspect Arrested After Hit-and-Run, Trail of Car Parts, and Several Failed Donuts Lead Police Straight to Him City of Sacramento (opgov.news) — Sacramento police arrested a local man after a May 10 hit‑and‑run near Northgate Boulevard and Wisconsin Avenue, helped by surveillance technology and a trail of car parts. The victim suffered non‑life‑threatening injuries, while residents flooded Facebook with jokes, criticism of the reckless driving, and debate over camera use in Sacramento policing.    

3. Sacramento deputies search Carmichael medical building but find no intruder (sacbee.com) — Sacramento County sheriff’s deputies and multiple nearby police agencies swarmed a Carmichael medical building Friday after reports of a possible gunman, but a thorough room-by-room search found no intruder or weapon. The Mercy Physicians Plaza on the Mercy San Juan Medical Center campus was locked down, then reopened after deputies deemed the incident a false alarm and detained the man who initially claimed there was a gun.    

4. Governor Newsom announces appointments 5.29.2026 (ca.gov) — From Sacramento, Governor Newsom has named several new state officials, including Sacramento resident Allison Pease as Deputy Director and Chief Counsel at the Department of General Services and Sacramento’s Joji Kume to a top role at Cal Expo and the State Fair. The announcement also covers appointments and reappointments to key statewide medical, behavioral health, and regulatory boards.
