VACAVILLE, CA — A river otter suffered a critical injury in swelling around its brain Friday when it was hit by a vehicle in a hit-and-run in Vacaville, KRON 4 reported.
The male otter was found in the road overnight, suffering from head trauma, the Solano Wildlife Rescue and Education Center told the outlet.
The animal will be in their care for the next seven to 10 days. The otter had no broken bones, and its "head swelling should go down during this time," center officials told the outlet.
The center announced the otter's plight in a post to Facebook on Friday, featuring photos of the otter, pleading for donations, adding, "Otter Needs Help!"
"Please donate for his medical care, rehab, and transport. Thank you," the post stated.
