West Sacramento streetcar project paused, city says (kcra.com) — A long-planned streetcar line linking West Sacramento, downtown Sacramento, and the Sacramento Valley Amtrak Station is now on pause because of sharply higher construction costs, especially steel. City and SacRT officials say they still see the Downtown Riverfront Streetcar as key to a more connected, sustainable regional transit network, but gave no timeline for restarting work.
2. Two pedestrians struck by freight train in Sacramento; one dies at the scene (sacbee.com) — One pedestrian was killed and another hospitalized after a Union Pacific freight train hit them Friday evening along Grand Avenue in an industrial area of Sacramento near East Del Paso Heights. Police say the surviving pedestrian is in stable condition, and the Sacramento County Coroner's Office will release the victim's identity after family notification.
3. Sacramento County deputies release bodycam footage of deadly I-80 shooting (kcra.com) — Sacramento County sheriff's deputies have released body camera video from a July pursuit on I-80 that ended with a man fatally shot after allegedly pointing a gun at them. The case began with a brutal domestic violence report in Rancho Cordova and shut down parts of eastbound and westbound I-80 for hours while investigators processed the scene.
4. Sacramento Nepali community seeks support for flood victims in Nepal (kcra.com) — Members of Sacramento's Nepali community are gathering at the Greater Sacramento Nepali Community Center to pray and raise cash donations for relatives and neighbors hit by catastrophic flooding in Nepal. Families from Sacramento, Roseville, Rocklin, Elk Grove, Davis, and Woodland are anxiously tracking missing loved ones while emphasizing the comfort and strength they find in supporting each other locally.
