1. 'These are real people': 9 Sacramento businesses targeted within days, 1 arrest made (fox40.com) — Sacramento police arrested a 46-year-old man in connection with five of nine recent burglaries that hit small businesses in midtown and downtown, leaving storefronts with broken glass and boarded windows. Shops like East Village Bookshop and nearby bars were among those targeted, and investigators are still gathering evidence on the remaining cases while urging neighbors to keep looking out for one another.
2. Sacramento company develops clean energy technology for AI data centers (kcra.com) — A Sacramento clean-tech firm, LiCAP Technologies, is expanding its local facility and hiring more workers as it develops ultracapacitor systems designed for energy-hungry AI data centers. The company's patented dry electrode process aims to cut environmental impacts while positioning Sacramento as a regional hub for clean energy innovation, backed by an $11.3 million state grant.
3. Northern Californians savor summer's final days with outdoor activities (kcra.com) — If you're heading to the American River or Folsom Lake this Labor Day weekend, expect mild weather, gentler water flows, and growing crowds from across the Sacramento area. Officials are also enforcing an alcohol ban on stretches of the American River in Sacramento County and Sherman Island, while urging boaters to follow inspection rules to stop invasive mussels.
4. Maryann Lansangan takes 'care of the people who take care of the people' (sacbee.com) — A regional nursing leader who now works at Mercy San Juan Medical Center in Carmichael is being honored among 60 Change Makers celebrated by The Sacramento Bee and Nehemiah Leaders Programs in downtown Sacramento. Chief nursing executive Maryann Lansangan is recognized for supporting the nurses who care for patients, drawing on decades of experience in hospitals from the Philippines to the Midwest and California.
5. Red Raiders fall to Hornets (texastech.com) — A visiting Red Raiders volleyball squad fell in three tight sets to Sacramento State on Friday, despite jumping out to early leads in every frame. The Hornets, now 2-3, rode strong hitting from Victoria Marthaler and Charlee Lepp, while the Red Raiders will wrap up their Sacramento trip with a match against Nevada on Sunday.
