1. Bullriding, roping and more. See photos as Sac-Town Rodeo returns for second year (sacbee.com) โ Bull riding, bronc riding, mutton busting and more are back at Cal Expo as the Sac-Town Rodeo continues in Sacramento today, raising money for the Firefighters Burn Institute. Organizers expanded the event to two days after last year's strong turnout, with kids' events, specialty performers and evening ceremonies offering a full Western-themed experience for local families.

2. Man drowns in American River, Metro Fire says after rescue call near Arden Arcade (sacbee.com) โ A man drowned Sunday in the American River along the Parkway near Estates Drive in Arden Arcade, just downstream from Rio Americano High School, despite rescue efforts by Sacramento Metro Fire. Bystanders spotted him submerged and called 911, but he was pronounced dead at the scene, and Sacramento County park rangers are now investigating how he ended up in the water.

3. U.S. Coast Guard's new patrol plane lands in Sacramento (defence-blog.com) โ Air Station Sacramento has received its first HC-130J Super Hercules patrol plane, significantly upgrading the Coast Guard's long-range search, rescue and interdiction capabilities from the local base. A second aircraft is due around spring 2027, with plans for Sacramento to eventually operate four of the larger planes funded through a major federal investment.

4. Elk Grove suspect dead by suicide after arson, police chase Saturday night (sacbee.com) โ An Elk Grove man died by suicide Saturday evening after allegedly setting an RV on fire on Bradshaw Road and later confronting police while holding what appeared to be a rifle, later identified as a pellet gun. Elk Grove officers fired at the suspect from a helicopter but did not hit him, and the department is now investigating the incident while the involved officer is on administrative leave. Sacramento-area readers may notice Cosumnes Fire's response and oversight by the department's Professional Standards Bureau.
