1. SacRT begins testing for Green Line near Sacramento's Railyards (kcra.com) — Sacramento light rail riders will soon see Green Line trains running again near the Railyards as SacRT begins operator training and system testing, though boarding isn't allowed yet. Service between downtown's 13th Street and Township 9 is expected to reopen by mid‑October, with a new 7th Street and Railyards Boulevard station eventually linking future housing, businesses and the planned MLS stadium.
   

2. Father, son convicted of several armed ATM robberies in Sacramento County (kcra.com) — Sacramento County residents are learning that a father and son have been convicted for a string of nine armed ATM robberies at Wells Fargo and Golden 1 machines across the county in late 2023. Jurors found both men used firearms, with investigators later recovering two guns in Sacramento's Meadowview neighborhood. The pair now face lengthy state prison sentences, with formal sentencing set for October 28.
   

3. Wine Economist Mike Veseth to Keynote 2027 Unified Wine & Grape Symposium (wineindustryadvisor.com) — Sacramento will host the 2027 Unified Wine & Grape Symposium at the SAFE Credit Union Convention Center January 26–28, bringing winegrowers, wineries and suppliers from around the world downtown. Economist and author Mike Veseth will headline opening day with a keynote on global wine trends, followed by a luncheon at the Sheraton Grand and a two-day trade show. Local industry professionals are urged to register early once sign-ups open in October.
   

4. Sacramento's top stories: Gas prices, school funding and fire weather (sacbee.com) — Sacramento-area residents are facing higher gas prices, with California drivers paying about 14 cents more per gallon than last week. Lawmakers may revisit a proposal prompted by Sacramento City Unified's fiscal troubles, while a red flag warning covers much of the Sacramento Valley as strong northerly winds keep fire danger elevated into Monday.
   

5. Sacramento philanthropist Ernest Tschannen dies at 101 (kcra.com) — Longtime Sacramento philanthropist and real estate investor Ernest E. Tschannen has died at 101, leaving a major legacy at Sacramento State and UC Davis Health. His multimillion‑dollar gifts funded the Tschannen Science Complex and a new engineering building at Sac State, plus the Ernest E. Tschannen Eye Institute, shaping local education and health care for decades to come.
