1. From the river: A different view of Sacramento's erosion protection (army.mil) — Major erosion-control construction is underway along the east bank of the Sacramento River, especially in the Pocket, Greenhaven, and Little Pocket neighborhoods, to strengthen levees that protect homes and critical infrastructure. Crews are placing rock by barge and adding habitat-friendly features as part of a multi-year, $71.1 million project that's central to long-term flood protection for the Sacramento region.
2. Man killed after being struck by vehicle in south Sacramento (kcra.com) — A man died after being hit by a vehicle Tuesday night in south Sacramento near the 8100 block of Signal Court by Power Inn Road, and police say the driver stayed at the scene. Power Inn Road is currently closed between Eldercreek Road and Lemon Hill Avenue while investigators work, and alcohol and drugs do not appear to be factors.
3. United Way's 'Innovate and Ignite' Benefiting Foster Youth (natomasmessenger.com) — Sacramento residents can support local foster youth tonight at United Way's "Innovate and Ignite" fundraiser from 5:30–7:30 p.m. at The Cannery Place on Alhambra Boulevard. The event benefits programs including a guaranteed income initiative for former foster youth at Sacramento State and UC Davis, and features local women leaders, networking, and charcuterie with tickets priced at $65.
4. Sacramento area author Dr. JaNay Brown-Wood celebrates release of 34th children's book (kcra.com) — A Sacramento-area children's author is celebrating the release of her 34th book, "Amara Visits the Library," which she dedicated to librarians at the Sacramento Public Library. She explains how growing up without relatable stories drives her mission to create diverse books and shares practical bedtime reading tips from her "Jammies with JaNay" program for local families.
