Copper wire theft is causing costly damage to agricultural operations in Sacramento County (kcra.com) — Farmers in Sacramento County are facing expensive copper wire thefts that damage pumps and control systems, leaving vineyards without water for weeks and repair bills far higher than the metal's value. The Sacramento County Sheriff's Office reports over 100 cases this year and is deploying mobile surveillance units, while new state law AB1941 aims to crack down on organized metal theft.
5. Cell tower theft ring leader sentenced, 911 services were at risk (actionnewsnow.com) — Federal prosecutors in Sacramento have sentenced a Placerville man to more than six years in prison for leading a multistate theft ring that targeted cell towers and could have disrupted 911 service. Three Sacramento accomplices have already received prison terms and restitution orders after helping steal and resell hundreds of critical power units from communication sites across several states.
