During the investigation, her husband, Gurinder Gill, claimed U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents had taken his wife while she was checking the mail, but the federal agency confirmed to detectives that there had been no such activity, according to the Sacramento County Sheriff's Office.

Detectives identified several inconsistencies in Gurinder Gill's statements about the disappearance and learned that the couple was in the midst of a divorce and child custody dispute, police said.

Burned human remains discovered Oct. 1 in El Dorado County were later confirmed to be Jasmine Gill's, and detectives obtained an arrest warrant for Gurinder Gill, according to the sheriff's office.

"There are no words to describe the heartbreak of losing Jasmine in such a devastating and unimaginable way," Jasmine Gill's family wrote on a GoFundMe webpage. "At just 30 years old, she had so much life left to live. She was a devoted daughter, a loving sister, a caring nurse, and a mother to an 8-month-old baby boy who needed her more than anything."

Gurinder Gill was arrested on Wednesday and booked into the Sacramento County Main Jail, where he is ineligible for bail, police said. Detectives also searched two homes associated with him, according to the sheriff's office.

Donations to the GoFundMe will go toward transporting Jasmine Gill's remains to her mother in India as well as other funeral arrangements and expenses related to her baby's care and well-being, including legal costs, the webpage said.
