Man Arrested After 'Credible Threats' To CA State Capitol, Shootings: Police

SACRAMENTO, CA — “Credible threats” to the state Capitol caused disruptions and a heightened police presence Thursday, according to authorities.

A person involved in shootings Wednesday in Roseville and Citrus Heights made the threats against the Capitol, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Roseville police Thursday afternoon announced the arrest of 30-year-old Jackson Pinney of Hayward on suspicion of attempted homicide, firearm assault, shooting from a moving vehicle and shooting at an inhabited dwelling. Pinney was arrested near the intersection of Douglas Boulevard and Auburn-Folsom Road, police said, and will be booked into Placer County Jail.

The threat forced California's Assembly to cancel its Thursday session.

Senators evacuated to work in a new location.

"We are all safe in the Capitol," State Assemblymember Isaac Bryan tweeted. "There is no active shooter, but there was a credible threat."

As of about 10 a.m. the public was allowed to enter the building and people, including school children, were taking tours.

The first shooting Wednesday occurred around 8:45 p.m. in Citrus Heights, where the gunman fired several rounds while leaving the parking lot of a business, police said. Minutes later, a commercial building and detached structure were hit by several bullets, according to police.

About 8:55 p.m., authorities responded to a report of shots fired, and received a second call for a person shooting at Kaiser Permanente Roseville Medical Center while driving out of the parking lot, according to police. Two rounds were lodged in the building but no one was hurt, police said.
