First, today's weather:

Clouds, then sun. High: 67 Low: 45.

Here are the top stories in Sacramento today:

  1. A couple was moving from Portland to Phoenix when they stopped for the night at the Natomas Hilton Garden Inn near Del Paso Boulevard. Sometime during the night, the U-Haul that they were driving was stolen. The truck was filled with art and a toy collection, as well as all the family's clothes and personal items. Officers found the vehicle in the area of Pell Circle and Pell Drive with much of the family's belongings still inside. The stolen U-Haul's driver and another suspect in the area were arrested for conspiracy and theft-related charges. (KCRA3)
  2. Anne Rudin, the first woman to be elected mayor of Sacramento, died on Thanksgiving of complications of pneumonia, according to her family. She was 97. Rudin was a member of the Sacramento City Council for 12 years. Afterward, she was elected as the 51st mayor of Sacramento and served the city from 1983 to 1992. "Mayor Anne Rudin was always a leader ahead of her time," Sacramento mayor Darrell Steinberg said in a statement on Saturday. "She was among the first to recognize that LGBTQ rights are core civil rights. She broke the glass ceiling becoming Sacramento's first elected woman mayor. She was decent, tough, and always elevated the best of Sacramento's values." (KCRA3)
  3. Sarah Aquino, Folsom's vice mayor, had been focused on telling residents to spend money at local businesses. But now she's telling them to take part time jobs at their favorite businesses as local businesses struggle to find employees. And, she's putting her efforts where her mouth is, taking a part time job at local favorite Back Bistro as a hostess. She considers it her civic duty to cover four shifts a week to help one of her favorite restaurants stay open. (FOX40)
  4. A missing Sacramento man has been found safe, according to police. 42-year-old Waiyu Leung was last seen walking near the 8200 block of Delta Shores Circle on Friday at around 5 p.m. Police said he is easily confused and disoriented and they asked for the public's help in finding Mr. Leung. Early Saturday morning Sacramento police informed the public that Waiyu Leung had been found and he was safe. (ABC10)
  5. Gov. Gavin Newsom will be hosting the California State Capitol Tree Lighting Ceremony on Thursday, his office says. This year's tree is a 65-foot white fir from the LaTour Demonstration State Forest near Redding. About 14,000 LED lights and 300 traditional and 500 hand-crafted ornaments will adorn the tree. The program is set to begin at 5:30 p.m. on Dec. 2. (CBS Sacramento)

  • Need a reason to hug each other this holiday season? Researchers may have come up with "the perfect hug" for you to try out. It has to do with how long your hugs last. Psychologists at Goldsmiths University in London found that the "10-second snuggle" was the perfect length, saying that 10 seconds is the right amount of time to release plenty of endorphins and improve stress levels and confidence. So next time you're locked in a hug with friends or fam, count to 10 and feel the endorphins surge. (CBS Sacramento)
