Happy Monday, people of Sacramento! Here are the most important things going on around Sacramento today.
First, today's weather:
Areas of low clouds and fog. High: 50 Low: 50.
Here are the top five stories in Sacramento today:
- It's Monday and back to the grind for many. Are you returning to work with memories of a wild weekend? Even with the Omicron variant canceling many celebrations in Sacramento, revelers were out in force to bring in the new year with a bang. It was a mixed bag of "requirements" across the region with some venues insisting on vaccine cards and others going with the flow and allowing patrons to decide what precautions to take. (CBS Sacramento)
- Sacramento favorite breakfast spot, Bacon and Butter, temporarily closed its doors due to the recent surge in COVID-19 cases. The restaurant announced on Instagram that it will be closing for a few days. "We prioritize the health and safety of our staff and guests above all else, but that doesn't diminish the sting of disappointing our Sunday guests," the post reads. They are expected to reopen on January 5th. (ABC10)
- Welcome to Sacramento, first new little person of 2022! The region's first baby of the new year was born last night in Carmichael. The child was born at San Juan Medical Center at 12:08 a.m. (CBS Sacramento)
- As COVID-19 cases surge yet again following the 2021 holiday season, the demand for testing is bleeding into the new year. On Saturday afternoon, anyone arriving to COVID Clinic's Arden Sacramento location was greeted with a long line of cars. Staff said they expected to process anywhere between 300 to 400 tests on Saturday at the one site. COVID Clinic currently operates testing locations at four sites. (KCRA3)
- Police officer Brett Schneider, of Lincoln, suddenly found himself looking into the piercing eyes of a powerful bull, and he knew immediately he had to act. He grabbed his camera and took a winning shot of the beast. Schneider's photography skills earned him the Grand Prize — and $1,000 — in the 40th annual California Farm Bureau Photo Contest.
