🌱CSUS Active Shooter Simulation + Gusher on Stockton Blvd!

The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in Sacramento.

(Patch Media)

Hey, neighbors! It's me again, Jeri Karges, your host of the Sacramento Daily.

First, today's weather:

Very warm. High: 85 Low: 53.

Here are the top five stories today in Sacramento:

  1. More than 100 people took part in a simulation of an active shooter situation at Sacramento State University on Monday. The mock crisis took place across the campus with police, and other first responders taking part. This was only a drill. The last shooting situation they had at Sac State was in 2015. (ABC10)
  2. The California Highway Patrol is investigating a crash into a fire hydrant causing water to shoot over 30 feet into the air. The incident happened early Monday morning on Stockton and 65th St. Emergency services were able to get the waterfall under control. The driver was not hurt and spoke with CHP. The pictures are pretty spectacular, though! (CBS Sacramento)
  3. A man was injured and a woman was arrested after a late night shooting in West Sacramento. It happened around 11:30 p.m. on Saturday on the 1000 block of West Capitol Avenue. The man is said to be in critical but stable condition. Sacramento resident Leaetta Montgomery, 51, was arrested near the scene of the shooting, police said. She remains in custody. (KCRA3)
  4. A Sacramento senior and basketball player for Inderkum High School has been identified as the pedestrian hit and killed by a vehicle in a Rocklin roadway over the weekend. Anthony Williams died in the crash on Saturday, Natomas Unified School District spokesperson Deidra Powell confirmed on Sunday. This was Williams' first year at Inderkum. He had been a student at Whitney High School and other schools in Rocklin previously. The crash happened Saturday around 8:30 p.m. on Lonetree Boulevard and Adams Drive, Rocklin police have said. The driver was said to be cooperating with the investigation. (KCRA3)

Today in Sacramento:

  • She Shares is thrilled to announce its first in-person event back at California Museum with two incredible speakers; California Secretary of State Shirley N. Weber, Ph.D., and her daughter, Assemblymember Akilah Weber, M.D. (5:15 PM)
  • Join Paints and Pints for a fun evening at Tilted Mash Brewing in Elk Grove! (6:00 PM)
  • California Trout is proud to host a screening of the 2022 International Fly Fishing Film Festival at the Tower Theater in Sacramento. (7:00 PM)

From my notebook:

  • Don't miss the Elk Grove State of the City Address featuring Mayor Bobbie Singh-Allen on March 25, 2022 at 11:30am to 1:30pm at The Center at District56, 8230 Civic Center Drive, Suite #100.
  • The first 90-degree temps of the year are possible this week for parts of NorCal (about a 20-30% chance in the Northern Sac Valley). On average, the first 90-degree day is in early-mid May. If Red Bluff hits 90 degrees on Wednesday, it would tie the record (Facebook); and THEN a little encouragement for interior NorCal with the latest 6 to 10 day precipitation outlook (valid March 26 -30) leaning above normal. • Elk Grove native Monique Sypkens starred in TV movie "Sins in the Suburbs" on Lifetime last week. Read her story here.
