Deadly Truckee Plane Crash: 2 Killed, 1 Injured
Placer County Sheriff's Office officials have identified the pilot, who was one of the victims killed in the crash.

TRUCKEE, CA — Two people were killed Tuesday and one person was hospitalized following a plane crash near the Truckee-Tahoe Airport, sheriff’s officials said. The private plane took off from the Truckee Airport early in the morning and the pilot put out a distress signal shortly after takeoff and prior to the crash, according to officials.
Two of the three victims were taken to a hospital in Reno. Officials said owner and pilot Kenneth Whittall-Scherfee, 60, of Carmichael died at the scene. A second victim was pronounced dead at the hospital later in the morning, according to officials. Authorities have not yet released the name of the second victim.
The FAA and National Transportation Safety Board are investigating the cause of the crash. No other information is currently available.
