Welcome to the Sacramento Patch daily newsletter for everything happening Wednesday August 4th, 2021 in The River City.

Good morning, River City!
Welcome to the Sacramento Daily Patch Newsletter! This is where you will find all of the best news and events happening in Sacramento for Wednesday August 4th, 2021!
First, today's weather: Clear throughout the day. High: 95 Low: 55.
Here are the top stories today in Sacramento:
- With a goal of increasing diversity on the force, Sac Fire is restarting a Girl's Fire Camp for teen girls to find out what it's like to be a firefighter. The teens will learn skills like using a chainsaw and forcing a door for entry. Female firefighters that have had these experiences believe that girls don't know how much they can achieve until they've tried it, and when they do, they're hooked. That's the goal - to get these girls to join the ranks of the firefighters when they graduate! (FOX40)
- The demand for COVID-19 testing has skyrocketed so Cal Expo has re-opened its testing center. Testing at the center has doubled in the last week, from about 70/day in the first days of the reopening to 140/day a week later. Officials say the delta variant is driving the increase and they're working on contingency plans as the lines for testing continue to grow. (KCRA3)
- A car ran a red light in downtown Sac on Tuesday, ricocheted off of another and ended up parked INSIDE the Sacramento Housing and Redevelopment Agency building. It looks like Sac Fire had to pull out all of their engineering skills to figure out how to extract the vehicle. A lot of nerves were frazzled, but no major injuries were reported. (CBS Sacramento)
- Doug Christie returns to the Kings! The Kings have hired Christie as an assistant coach. He definitely brings skills as an aggressive defender, as we learned with his time as a player for the organization. Joining the team in 2000 as a trade for Corliss Williamson, Christie was a 4 time NBA All-Defensive team member. Great to see him back! (ABC10)
- Our very own Sacramento ranked as one of the top future-focused big cities in the US, topping Austin, New York and LA. This group looked at technology and sustainability, among other factors, in determining that Sacramento will be a great place to live for a very long time. We already knew that, didn't we? (FOX40)

Sacramento Patch Notebook
- Over at DOCO a new comics store is opening on August 6th called Impound Comics. This store is dedicated to Sacramento's very own superhero, single father and aspiring MMA fighter Anthony "Impound" Endsley! Throughout the comic books, you'll find references to iconic Sacramento landmarks and some subtle Sacramento cultural references, as well. Come and check out the flashy new store and take a read of a newly famous Super Sacramentan!
- I don't know about you, but I could watch this little video clip all day. These dogs are having more fun than a barrel full of... well, wet dogs! Check out the dude that uses the other dogs as a hurdle as he propels himself into the pool. And then sign your dog up to join the fun!
