Welcome to the Sacramento Daily Patch Newsletter! This is where you will find all of the best news and events happening in Sacramento for Tuesday August 10th, 2021!

First, today's weather: Clear throughout the day. High: 100 Low: 64.

Here are the top stories today in Sacramento:

  1. The woman found drowned in Folsom Lake last weekend has been identified. Authorities say the victim is Sacramento City College professor Tanya Rodriguez, 49, of Sacramento. Rodriquez taught philosophy at the college. She was visiting the lake with her 6-year-old nephew when she went under and never came up. The family says she was an avid swimmer and mountain climber. They do not know what went wrong when she went under the water. The family is preparing a memorial service for her later this month. (CBS Sacramento)
  2. This East Area Rapist survivor has used her experience to make life better for others. Kris Pedretti has made her Elk Grove home into a haven for other survivors of sexual violence. It took Pedretti decades to admit to others that she had been the victim of rape. When East Area Rapist and Golden State Killer Joseph DeAngelo was brought to justice in 2018, Pedretti decided it was time to talk to others about her experience. Now, she is giving others the chance to do the same thing in a supportive environment online and in her backyard. (Capital Public Radio News)
  3. The City of Folsom has a lot of open spaces that are prone to fire danger. As a precaution, it has closed 11 of them. The move comes after an emergency order was issued prompted by extraordinary drought conditions. Anyone caught in these open spaces that refuses to leave will be subject to a misdemeanor violation. (CBS Sacramento)
  4. Police in Citrus Heights are investigating a shooting that happened Sunday evening. The shooting took place at 6:25 on Auburn Blvd. Authorities say that the two men may have been targeting each other. Neither shooter has been identified. (FOX40)
  5. County employees describe a toxic work environment in the office of the CEO prior to his retirement earlier this year. On Friday a report was released that described former County CEO Navdeep Gill as being abusive, vindictive, retaliatory and uncontrollable. Independent investigators further found that Gill failed to create a safe work environment during the pandemic. A second, more comprehensive report is expected within the month. (CBS Sacramento)
