🌱Fairytale Town Grows + Oscars SWAG Includes Sacto Authors

The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in Sacramento.

(Patch Media)

Hey, neighbors! It's me again, Jeri Karges, your host of the Sacramento Daily.

First, today's weather:

Clouds and sun; not as warm. High: 65 Low: 46.

Here are the top stories in Sacramento today:

  1. A 28-year-old man has been arrested in connection with two sexual battery incidents at Sacramento State University and one at Cosumnes River College earlier this month. Nico Traversie was arrested by Sac State and Los Rios police detectives on Monday on suspicion of three counts of sexual battery. He was booked in the Sacramento County main jail. A Sac State detective worked with the Los Rios Police Department on the case and they determined that the same suspect was believed responsible for all three assaults. Anyone with information is encouraged to call Sac State police at 916-278-6000. (KCRA3)
  2. When 10-year-old Avery was hospitalized unexpectedly, her parents learned that her existing heart blockage had worsened. In order for Avery's heartbeat to normalize Avery needed a pacemaker. She got one that was the size of a pill. Avery is the first of only three patients to receive this procedure at UC Davis Children's Hospital so far. "Avery had the smallest incision and recovery was minor," her father Owen Clark remembered. Now she has been fully cleared for all physical activity, and her teachers have noted a marked improvement in her energy level at school. (CBS Sacramento)
  3. The father of an Oakland teenager is asking for answers as to why his daughter was found dead earlier this month in a Sacramento apartment. Police found Marcella Bernal-Garcia, 16, in a residence in the 2100 Block of L Street on March 17 at 11:24 a.m., the Sacramento Police Department said in a statement. "Detectives haven't even contacted me," Raul Garcia told KTVU. KRON reported that Bernal-Garcia was living in a group home in Oakland and was also in foster care, as both of her parents served prison sentences. Her father was recently released. (SF Gate)
  4. An online auction that wrapped up over the weekend raked in $37,000 in just 10 days for Sacramento favorite, Fairytale Town. The money will go towards a three-phase expansion plan that includes the park's first-ever indoor attraction. The expansion is funded by $1.8 million in grant money. (CBS Sacramento)
  5. A Sacramento couple's books were shared with Oscar nominees in the 'Everyone wins' gift bag that was given to the top nominees in each category. The books are about coping. One is about coping with stress and is directed to helping young people with ancient techniques. The other is about coping as a member of the "sandwich" generation. The couple autographed the books with personal messages for the stars. How cool is that?? (ABC10.com KXTV)

Where should you invest as a Sacramento resident with a $149,000 nest egg? Thanks to a change in the legal code, there's a new investment Sacramento residents need to know about. In fact, Bloomberg asked experts where they'd invest $100,000 right now and many of them chose it.

This may surprise you, but it's fine art.

Growing your nest egg with art isn't new. Wealthy families like the Rockefellers have done it for centuries.

Here's why:

  • Low correlation to stocks according to Citi
  • Contemporary art historically returns 23.2% when inflation is >3%
  • Contemporary art prices outpaced the S&P 500 by 164% (1995-2021)

Translation: Art could be one of the best investments for uncertain times.

Luckily for you, we found Masterworks. This revolutionary platform lets you invest in art by Warhol, Monet, Picasso without spending millions.

The best part? Anyone from your area can skip their waitlist*.
