Four Local Organizations Leading the Energy Efficiency Movement
As part of Energy Upgrade California campaign, organizations help Californians take action
Energy Upgrade California (EUC), the consumer education initiative to promote smart energy use, is committed to uniting organizations and communities in saving energy and increasing energy efficiency. Organizations throughout California have joined the Keep It Golden movement and are working together to improve California’s energy future. Sacramento is home to twelve change-making organizations that have partnered with EUC and are inspiring people to believe they can make real substantive change, including:
- Community Housing Opportunities Corporation (CHOC) is an economic and community development organization that promotes healthy communities and opportunities for youth, families and seniors. CHOC Energy promotes energy efficiency and energy conservation programs in Northern California and operates the Energy Savings Assistance Program (ESAP). CHOC Energy serves low-income households in five (5) counties: Contra Costa, Napa, Sacramento, Solano and Yolo. Annually, CHOC Energy weatherizes over 5,000 homes and produces over 40 living wage jobs!
- California Council of the Blind (CCB) is on a mission to increase the independence, security, equality of opportunity, and quality of life for all Californians who are blind and visually impaired. CCB is actively involved in spreading awareness of how Californians with disabilities can integrate sustainable practices into their everyday lives.
- Rebuilding Together forges effective partnerships with public and private spheres, repairs homes, revitalizes communities and rebuilds lives. Rebuilding Together has nearly 100,000 volunteers complete about 10,000 rebuild projects nationwide each year. As part of the home energy conservation program, Rebuilding Together provides free minor home energy improvements for low-moderate income homeowners in the Sacramento area.
- California Green Business Network works with small to medium sized businesses to create a vibrant green economy, helping to make communities healthier and more livable while also conserving resources and saving money.
While EUC provides organizations with the tools, knowledge and inspiration they need to be an energy leader in their communities, each organization uniquely brings together different cultures and backgrounds, so that every Californian feels empowered.
