Grass Fire Burns Next To Sacramento Int'l Airport [VIDEO]

SMF airport operations were unaffected by the sizeable fire, authorities said. See video of the flames.

SACRAMENTO, CA — A grass fire broke out Friday afternoon near the Sacramento International Airport, burning an estimated 100 acres. The blaze was reported at about 3:23 p.m. just east of the SMF runway in the area of Metro Air Parkway, Skyking Road and W. Elkhorn Boulevard, according to the Sacramento Fire Department.

As of 6:10 p.m. Friday, the grass fire had charred about 100 acres.

"Airport operations unaffected," Sac Fire said on Twitter. "No structures threatened and fire is almost fully contained."

There have been no reports of injuries.

Also on Friday, the Baseline Fire broke out in Placer County and burned at least 604 acres. In a bit of good news, the large vegetation fire was 95-percent contained by 5:30 p.m., officials with Cal Fire said.
