Holiday Season Kicks off with Donation to Sacramento Food Bank
Foster Farms' Turkey donation helps meet increased demand for holiday meals and will provide 16,000 meals to local families

Sacramento Food Bank & Family Services is kicking off its Thanksgiving Turkey Drive with a delivery of 800 donated turkeys (more than 14,400 pounds – enough to provide 16,000 meals) from Foster Farms. The turkeys will be distributed in the coming week to help feed local families this Thanksgiving.
Kelly Siefkin from SFBFS was on hand to speak to the area’s level of food insecurity and call for additional protein, food and monetary donations leading up to Thanksgiving. Foster Farms Director of Communications Ira Brill spoke to the company’s commitments to its local communities.
Thanksgiving is a time for families to gather around a meal, yet 17 percent, approximately 240,000 individuals in Sacramento County are food insecure.Statewide, 13.5 percent of Californian households were food insecure at some time last year. SFBFS encourages the community to join Foster Farms in donating turkeys and other key components of a traditional Thanksgiving dinner to help Sacramento-area families in need enjoy the holiday.

SFBFS is accepting donations of turkeys from community members today, Thursday, November 16 from 4:30 a.m.-7:00 p.m. at its Oak Park campus.
