🌱Local Niners + SMF Improvements + River Cats Hiring Event
The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in Sacramento.

Happy Friday, neighbors! Here are the most important things going on today in town.
First, today's weather:
Areas of fog in the morning. High: 60 Low: 37.
Here are the top five stories in Sacramento today:
- The San Francisco 49ers are heading to the NFC Championship game against the Los Angeles Rams Sunday for a shot to play in L.A. in Super Bowl LVI. Some locals will be on the field for SF. Watch for Brandon Aiyuk at wide receiver. Aiyuk was born in Rocklin and attended Sierra College from 2016 to 2017. Arik Armstead will play defensive end. Armstead was born in Sacramento and attended Pleasant Grove High School in Elk Grove. Watch Ross Dwelley at tight end. Dwelley was born in Sonora and graduated from Oak Ridge High School in El Dorado Hills. (KCRA3)
- Millions of dollars are on the way to Sacramento International Airport, thanks to President Biden's infrastructure law. The airport is getting nearly $14 million to improve safety on runways and taxiways. Money will also go towards replacing terminals and updating technology. (CBS Sacramento)
- A man is dead after a crash Thursday morning that closed the El Camino Avenue overpass and on- and off-ramps of Business 80 in Sacramento. The crash happened around 2:40 a.m. The driver of a blue mini-van died after the van rolled from the top of the El Camino Avenue on-ramp to the freeway's edge below. A second unoccupied vehicle was found at the scene. That vehicle "appeared to have been in a collision." The driver fled the scene before emergency crew arrivals, officials reported. The off-ramp was closed for several hours and the incident remains under investigation. (FOX40)
- SCUSD wants to adopt the vaccine-or-testing requirement for all children over the age of 12. Sacramento Public Health reports only 61% of those in the 12 to 19 age group have been fully or partially vaccinated. The goal was to have all students report their status by a Jan. 31 deadline. If the district had enforced the original deadline, more than 8,500 students or 44% of all students would have been forced out of the classroom and into independent study. The new deadline is Feb. 28. (FOX40)
- Anyone renting scooters or bicycles in Sacramento will now have to lock them up to bike racks or to themselves in identified drop zones or you'll run the risk of getting charged an additional $15. This comes after the city of Sacramento received many complaints about improper parking and blocked sidewalks. The rule went into effect Jan. 15. Also note that riding your bike or scooter on a sidewalk could result in a $207 citation. (KCRA3)
