Good morning, neighbors! Jeri Karges here with the Friday Sacramento Daily.

First, today's weather:

A little morning rain; cloudy. High: 53 Low: 47.

Here are the top stories today in Sacramento:

  1. Several state legislators are in quarantine after attending an event Tuesday night to see off former Assemblywoman Lorena Gonzalez. The LA Times was first to report the event, which took place at a downtown Sacramento hotel and had at least a dozen lawmakers in attendance. The next morning, Sen. Josh Becker, D-Menlo Park, said he had tested positive for COVID-19. The Times reported Becker was at Tuesday's event and wore an N95 mask while there. (FOX40)
  2. Sacramento restaurants say Dine Downtown is still on despite the recent COVID surge. Though some restaurants, like Bacon and Butter, are closing temporarily due to the surge, most are staying open to welcome diners. From Jan 7. to Jan. 17, 30 restaurants will offer discounts, three and four-course meals during Dine Downtown. "It's a celebration of the restaurants that have made Sacramento the foodie region that we are," Emily Hoffman with the Downtown Sacramento Partnership said. "This is really an opportunity for folks to try out a restaurant that they maybe have never tried out before that they're really looking forward to." (ABC10)
  3. All residents are safe after an early morning fire at a Victorian home near 18th and O streets Thursday morning. A passerby noticed the fire and rushed to knock on doors to alert the residents inside. Firefighters got to the scene and quickly put the flames out. (CBS Sacramento)
  4. A woman was shot and killed just before 4:50 p.m. Wednesday afternoon at a parking garage near 28th and K street. Officers are investigating the area, but police believe this shooting was isolated and that there is no threat to the public or nearby hospital. (KCRA3)
  5. One of two jackpot Powerball tickets was sold at a 7-Eleven in Sacramento, according to the Multi-State Lottery Association. The other jackpot ticket was sold in Wisconsin. The winners will split the $630 million. The odds of winning the jackpot are 1 in 292.2 million, according to Powerball. (KCRA3)
