Merryhill Preschool Students Receive Check at Local Baseball Game
For having the highest participation in the team's reading program, the school received a donation, and a student threw the first pitch
Students from Merryhill Preschool in Stockton were recently presented with a $1,000 jumbo check at a Stockton Ports baseball game as a reward for having the most participants in the team’s Baseball by the Books reading program, in which students who read at least five books receive two free tickets to a Stockton Ports baseball game. At the recent game, nearly 200 Merryhill Preschool students, family members and staff were in attendance. In recognition of their reading achievements, Merryhill Preschool students were given the check on the field by the team’s mascot, Splash, and had the opportunity to announce, “Let’s play ball!” to the full stadium of fans. One student was also selected to throw the game’s first pitch.
Baseball by the Books is designed to spread the value of reading by encouraging students to read in the classroom, as well as at home, while earning two free tickets to a designated Ports game.
