🌱Sacramento Republic FC Railyards Stadium + Street Food Sacto Winners
The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in Sacramento.

Happy Saturday, Sacramento! Let's get this day started. Here's what's happening today in Sacramento.
First, today's weather:
Mostly sunny and very warm. High: 82 Low: 44.
Here are the top five stories today in Sacramento:
- The Sacramento Republic FC are currently in the advanced planning stages to build an outdoor stadium at the Railyards. The new vision for the 12,000 to 15,000 seat venue will initially be used as a USL-based stadium, but it could expand to 20,000 seats as needed, if Major League Soccer comes calling or if any FIFA requirements are imposed upon them. The plans are to host not only just soccer events but Division 1 football, lacrosse, rugby, concerts, high school and college graduations, and any other community events. A release from Sacramento Republic FC said the stadium is a nearly $1 billion investment, which includes bringing in new housing and mixed-use developments. The plan is expected to double the overall size of downtown Sacramento! The project is almost entirely privately funded by Republic FC Chairman and CEO Kevin Nagle, and other investors. (KCRA3)
- The South Sacramento food bank delivery truck has blown a rod and is now out of service. The food bank is renting a U-Haul at the price of $100 a day, and that is not sustainable for them. They want the community to know that they will still be delivering food to those in need at their South Sacramento location, but even as the need grows, the supply may diminish if they are not able to get a new truck. They are asking leaders and the community to come together to help them help those in need with a new truck. (ABC10.com KXTV)
- People in a West Sacramento community are on edge after a prowler was caught on a home surveillance camera creeping through a backyard, hopping onto a roof and breaking a window. It happened in a gated community called "The River" and West Sacramento police are actively investigating the case and looking for the suspect. The video has circulated in online posts in this tight-knit community where outdoor activities are part of everyday life. The West Sacramento Police Department has assigned its special investigation unit to the case. (CBS Sacramento)
- A Sacramento woman is making sure more children have access to their own books at home. Colette Charles is the executive director of Serve Sacramento. Charles delivers the free books to more than a dozen locations in Sacramento. That includes schools, community centers and women's shelters. Serve Sacramento also has a summer program. Charles said it helps keep kids out of trouble and on the right track at school. The organization relies on volunteers, donations and a big dose of dedication from Charles. (KCRA3)
- The Midtown Association is proud to announce three new "Street Food Sacramento" grant recipients selected as part of a continuing program designed to celebrate and amplify Sacramento's diverse street food culture while also reducing entry barriers of historically underrepresented populations. Drumroll, please! The winners are: Fernando Ponce of Chido's Restaurant & Bar, The Mak Family of Mak & Grille and Geronimo Escobar of Steady Smokin' BBQ. The approximate value for each of the "Street Food Sacramento" grants is $11,250 per food business. (Sacramento Press)
