🌱Sacto Experiences Wacky Weather+ Meet Foothill Wine Fest Winner

The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in Sacramento.

(Patch Media)

Hello, neighbors! It's me again, Jeri Karges, your host of the Sacramento Daily.

First, today's weather:

Mostly sunny and warm. High: 80 Low: 54.

Here are the top five stories today in Sacramento:

  1. Another weekend storm system didn't bring the March Miracle experts had hoped for earlier in the year and started the Sacramento region towards rollercoaster temperatures next week. By Tuesday, the National Weather Service Sacramento projects temperatures will be in the 80s. Next weekend there's a potential system that we might see some more rain and hopefully snow for the higher elevations. Is the back-and-forth a new normal for California? One expert says, it's likely. (CBS Sacramento)
  2. Just before 6:30 p.m. Saturday evening, a five-vehicle crash on Highway 50 near Watt Avenue injured five people, said Metro Fire Sacramento. Of the five people injured, three were transported to the hospital with critical injuries. Two were released at the scene. (CBS Sacramento)
  3. The Sacramento County Sheriff's Office says a shooting that left one man dead feet away from their office near the intersection of Orange Grove Avenue and Auburn Boulevard stemmed from a road rage incident. According to law enforcement, the 46-year-old victim allegedly drove his car, intentionally, into the car of a 24-year-old man. After crashing his car, the sheriff's office says the victim approached and reached inside the car of the 24-year-old suspected shooter. That is when the sheriff's office says the 24-year-old opened fire, shooting and eventually killing the 46-year-old. Those with information are asked to call the Sheriff's Office at 916-874-5115. (ABC10)
  4. The results are in from the second annual Foothill Wine Festival Competition, and once again, a Tempranillo rose to the top to take Best Red of Show. This year, it was the 2018 Casino Mine Ranch Tempranillo from Shenandoah Valley (Amador). Held in Folsom on March 5 and March 6, the competition was open to wines bearing labels from any District 10 county, including Amador, Calaveras, El Dorado, Mariposa, Nevada, Placer and Tuolumne. It was sponsored by the Greater Folsom Partnership, which will host the upcoming consumer tasting that will celebrate the winning wines of the Sierra Foothills on April 2 at the Palladio event center in Folsom. Tickets are available at www.foothillwinefest.com. (Folsom Telegraph)
  5. A growing meal delivery company has purchased a 1.7-acre property on Greenback Lane that is home to its headquarters building, amid plans to expand operations. MealPro announced acquisition of its building at 7433 Greenback Ln. last week for $3.2 million. The company was previously leasing space in the same building. In an interview Wednesday, MealPro owner Andy Sartori said he has plans to expand his operation with the possibility of offering a retail store where customers can walk in and purchase meals. Due to shipping costs, the minimum order is currently 20 meals. (Citrus Heights Sentinel/ subscription may be required)
