Here are the top 5 stories today in Sacramento:
- The Sacramento City Unified School District has teamed up with the Sacramento Food Bank and Family Services to serve 3,200 families in need over the holidays. A curbside food distribution event is happening Monday, Dec. 27, from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at nine SCUSD locations. Anyone can stop by to pick up a food box. You don't have to have children in the school district. The boxes include fresh produce, bread and milk. (KCRA3)
- A garbage truck spilled hydraulic fluid along Second Street in Old Sacramento Sunday afternoon. The city of Sacramento closed the street while it worked on remediation. (Good Day Sacramento)
- After being put on hold in 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Sacramento Kings were able to resume their engagement with the community by hosting the "Eat Like a King" holiday dinner at Golden 1 Center on December 6th. The participants fed over 250 local youth and families from underserved areas of Sacramento. Players had discussions with the youth, signed autographs, took selfies, played Family Feud and Pictionary as well as other games. (Sacramento Observer)
- For nearly half a century, Marna Salazar has been providing locals and out-of-towners with a winter wonderland in her front yard. She's had some of her decorations for more than 25 years. Sunday morning vandals ruined her popular display. When news of the vandalism spread on social media, Salazar says lines of people came to her home to support her. She said there were many families who showed up whom she had never met. Now, those community members are helping her rebuild, repair and re-buy. She insisted she will continue doing her annual display, and will not let the group of vandals "beat" her spirit. (KCRA3)
- The owner of The Brewmeister is looking for a home-brew beer and wine enthusiast to take over his business, which includes locations in Folsom and West Sacramento. Erik Schmid opened Red Bus Brewing Co. on Reading Street in Folsom in 2018. He said that as the business has grown, more of his attention has turned to the brewery, and he hasn't been able to give his home-brew retail business the attention he feels it needs. Schmid said the two stores included in the sale are turnkey. Anyone interested in learning more about the business should call either location or visit The Brewmeister website. From my notebook:
- Foggy mornings look lovely on you, @OldSac. Raise your hand if you're ready to bundle up and enjoy the wonderful winter views! (Instagram)

- Snow will return to NorCal mountains this week. Higher elevations could see several feet of snow between Tuesday and Saturday. Holiday travel could be significantly impacted, as hazardous mountain travel is expected. (Facebook)
