🌱 SCUSD & Unions Negotiate + Nat'l Vietnam Veteran's Day Event

The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in Sacramento.

(Patch Media)

Get on up, Sacramento! Let's get this Tuesday started off right. These are the most important things happening today in town.

First, today's weather:

Sunshine, pleasant and warmer. High: 73 Low: 47.

Here are the top five stories today in Sacramento:

  1. The Sacramento City Unified School District sat down at the bargaining table for hours with the Sacramento City Teachers Association for the first time on Sunday since thousands of teachers and staff went on strike last week. The district also continued talks with the local SEIU 1021 Chapter. However, no deal was made with either union, meaning kids did not return to the classroom Monday. SCTA has been calling on the district to agree to the recommendations made by a neutral panel in its fact-finder report. You can read the proposal to the district here. The district responded with a counterproposal on Sunday. Read it here. (KCRA3)
  2. The Sacramento County Sheriff's Office broke up an illegal drug sales operation at a warehouse on 42nd Avenue near Franklin Boulevard in South Sacramento this week. Deputies worked with the sheriff's office Gang Suppression Unit detectives to conduct surveillance of the area and get a search warrant for the warehouse. On Thursday, authorities from multiple agencies searched the warehouse and seized 300 pounds of processed marijuana worth $500,000, 15 pounds of cannabis wax worth $130,000, 10 pounds of mushrooms worth $25,000, about 25 pounds of edibles worth $25,000, $27,000 in cash and six guns. The investigation is ongoing. (KRON4)
  3. A person fell about 20 feet from the decking at Joe's Crab Shack in Old Sacramento to the ground near the Sacramento River on Saturday night. The person was brought back up to the street level to be transported to a local hospital with critical injuries. (ABC10)
  4. Two Folsom Prison inmates sentenced in San Diego County for assaults are suspected of killing another inmate while in the prison recreation yard, authorities said Sunday. Nathan Marcos, 33, was attacked by two other inmates at 2:12 p.m. Saturday and was declared dead at 2:38 p.m. after prison staff used chemical agents to stop the attack, according to officials from the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation. Officials identified the two prisoners who allegedly attacked Marcos as Tyler Yates and Gregory Roach. (Times of San Diego via MSN)
  5. The City's Department of Utilities in April will begin maintenance work along critical infrastructure in the City's flood control system, including water ditches near I-80, upper and lower Morrison Creek, as well as Bruceville Basin. This maintenance is expected to take up to six weeks to complete. The work performed in these areas will include removing debris that can cause localized flooding, block service roads and ditches as well as inspecting banks. Outreach and notification of the upcoming maintenance work at each site is scheduled to occur over three weeks before its start date. (Sacramento City Express)
