🌱 UCD Peregrine Falcons Hatch + Ex-KCRA3 Intern Lester Holt

The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in Sacramento.

(Patch Media)

Hello Sacramento! Writing your daily newsletter is truly a rewarding experience, and your loyalty has made it all the better! I just wanted to say, you might be missing the Sacramento Daily for awhile -- but don't worry! It won't be away for long; we just are focusing on some other Patch communities at the moment. Thanks for your support and patience, and we will be back and better than ever, sooner than you think!

First, today's weather:

Mostly sunny. High: 79 Low: 50.

Here are the top five stories in Sacramento today:

  1. Ever wonder what those cute Victorian houses in downtown look like on the inside? Wonder no more! Good Day Sacramento takes you inside one that is on the market for a cool $1.3 million. The house is cute, the balconies are a coffee drinkers dream but, the best part? Legend has it that the basement used to be a speakeasy back in the day. Check it out! (Good Day Sacramento)
  2. It's no secret that Old Sacramento was hit hard by the pandemic, and then a spate of crimes including a shooting on the waterfront last summer left people leery of coming back. But Old Sac has lived through all kinds of setbacks in its long history and it is working hard to come back to its pre-pandemic glory. City leaders are spending $5 million in federal COVID-19 relief funding to help improve the area, with most of the money going toward better security including additional surveillance cameras and more outdoor lighting. Businesses are hopeful that those upgrades, along with a new monthly "sip and shop" experience will bring all of you back to the waterfront! Head down to Old Sac on the last Wednesday of each month for a little taste of vino while you stroll the cobblestones. The wine walk is free to those over 21 years old. (CBS Sacramento)
  3. You gotta check out the cutest, ugliest thing I've ever seen! The peregrine falcon eggs on the roof of the UC Davis Medical Center in Sacramento have begun to hatch. The little guys (and gals) are coming out to bask in the beautiful spring and you can watch it happen. Click on this CBS Sacramento link and go to the website to find the link to the webcam to watch the rest of the hatchlings make their debut! (CBS Sacramento)
  4. Did you know that Lester Holt used to be an intern at KCRA3 in Sacramento? He also has a degree from Sac State where he attended. The degree is honorary, but that doesn't stop Sac State from being his alma mater! He was recently inducted into the National Association of Broadcasters Hall of Fame and took some time to chat with those of us here in the River City. You can watch the interview at this link. (KCRA3)
  5. The Citrus Heights Surgery Center, in affiliation with Dignity Health and United Surgical Partners International (USPI), hosted a grand opening event to give community members, medical staff and media their first look at a new 16,000 square-foot ambulatory surgery center in Citrus Heights. The new state-of-the-art Citrus Heights Surgery Center will be utilized for outpatient general surgery, otolaryngology, orthopedics, gastroenterology, pain management, podiatry and procedures.
