🌱Ultra-Runners Head To Folsom + Country Music Fest After Aftershock
The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in Sacramento.

Good morning, people of Sacramento! It's me again, Jeri Karges, your host of the Sacramento Daily.
First, today's weather:
Warm with plenty of sunshine. High: 78 Low: 47.
Here are the top five stories in Sacramento today:
- A new country music festival put on by the creators of Aftershock is set to take place in Sacramento in October. The festival, called the GoldenSky Country Music Festival, runs from Oct. 15 to Oct. 16 at Discovery Park — the weekend directly after Aftershock. The festival will include a craft beer hall, a farm-to-fork dining experience, a dance hall saloon and mechanical bull rides. The lineup for GoldenSky has not yet been released. (KCRA3)
- On Monday, Gov. Gavin Newsom announced an executive order for water restrictions in California. The order mandates that local water providers shift to level 2 of their respective Water Shortage Contingency Plans. Each of those plans is made by and tailored to each water supplier, so the requirements for businesses and residents are different depending on where you work or live. The good news for Sacramento is that not much changes. "We're technically going from water use reduction of 15% to 20%, voluntary, for all customers so that includes residents and businesses," said Carlos Eliason, a spokesperson for the city of Sacramento Department of Utilities. To reduce water usage by 5% from last month, Eliason suggests changing lawn watering times from 10-minute cycles to 8-minute cycles. People without lawns can make similar changes by reducing shower times by a couple of minutes. (KCRA3)
- Teachers who are now one week into a strike in the Sacramento City Unified School District marched inside the district headquarters Wednesday in a show of solidarity. Though Superintendent Aguilar made an appearance late in the evening, and entered into a discussion with union leaders, the meeting did not end with an agreement. The teachers were back at headquarters on Thursday. (CBS Sacramento)
- The Sacramento County District Attorney's Office announced Wednesday that jurors found Lorenzo McCoy, 34, guilty of second-degree murder stemming from a fatal shooting on Dec. 7, 2020, in Del Paso Heights. McCoy was on probation from a 2019 felony assault case at the time of the homicide and was prohibited from possessing a firearm. The District Attorney's Office says the firearm used in the shooting was never recovered. McCoy now faces a possible sentence of 25 years to life in prison. His sentence is scheduled to be determined during a hearing on June 3. (ABC10)
- On Saturday, ultra-runners are headed to Folsom to participate in the Altra American River 50-Mile Endurance Run (AR50) that begins at Folsom Lake. The second-largest 50-mile endurance run in the United States is returning for its 43rd year. In addition to the Altra American River 50-Mile Endurance Run, the event will also feature a 25-mile event, AR25, beginning at Beals Point and finishing in Auburn. This year, 79 women and 44 men are registered for the AR25, with 65 women and 127 men participating in the full Altra American River 50-Mile Endurance Run. (Gold Country Media)
