Water for Summer

SACRAMENTO, CA (June 25, 2020) Temperatures are often more than 100 degrees during the Sacramento summer months, cuing time spent indoors with the air conditioning on and plenty of fluids for many area residents. But for the homeless population left outside to battle the heat, many suffer from heat-related illnesses. This Thursday, June 25th at 10:30am, Bonney and Markstein Beverage Co. will deliver thousands of water bottles to Sacramento Loaves & Fishes responding to their crucial need for water.

Sacramento Loaves & Fishes is the largest provider of essential resources to the homeless population. Water is one of those essential resources that is quenching their thirst every day. At Friendship Park alone, Sacramento Loaves and Fishes distributes over 200 gallons of water and up to 600 pounds of ice on a regular summer day.

“Loaves & Fishes needs about a thousand water bottles every day to hydrate the homeless during the summer,” said Michelle McCauley, VP of Marketing at Bonney. “We hope our donation can create a ripple effect and encourage other businesses in our community to support homeless shelters and homeless service providers from Auburn to Modesto.”

According to Loaves & Fishes, the average person sleeping outside must walk as much as one and a half miles to find potable water. With the hot weather in full swing, the homeless need to stay cool and hydrated to survive.

“We know that our business and our personal lives depend on the strength of the world around us, and we believe in doing our part to ensure our community thrives,” said Cynthia Hardin, Community Outreach Manager at Markstein Beverage Company. “Partnering with Bonney to support Sacramento Loaves & Fishes is part of our business, and we’re eager to help meet the needs of our homeless community members.”

Bonney and Markstein are partnering to exceed Loaves & Fishes’ needs over the summer, together they will deliver 48 pallets (2 truckloads) which translates to 2,880 cases – 92,000 water bottles, this Thursday, June 25 at 10:30 a.m. to Sacramento Loaves & Fishes located at 1351 North C Street, Sacramento, CA 95811.
