🌱 The Waterboy Testing Site + Front Street Puppies Saved!
The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in Sacramento.

Good day, people of Sacramento! It's me again, Jeri Karges, your host of the Sacramento Daily.
First, today's weather:
Partial sunshine. High: 57 Low: 39.
Here are the top stories today in Sacramento:
- Multiple agencies are investigating after four people were found allegedly stealing from a Kohls store in Folsom, authorities said. A police chase with Folsom officers started just after 7 p.m. Sunday night. The pursuit continued onto Highway 50 where the Sacramento County Sheriff's Office took over. The pursuit ended in Sacramento where all four suspects were detained. The suspects also stole from stores in Roseville before going to Folsom, according to authorities. (KCRA3)
- They asked and Sacramento answered! Over 90 dogs were taken in by foster families to help the Front Street Animal Shelter deal with a bacterial outbreak. The dogs were in danger of getting sick after another dog at the Front Street Animal Shelter in Sacramento became infected with a contagious virus. To prevent the deadly infection from spreading, the shelter will not be accepting any healthy stray dogs for at least two weeks. (FOX40)
- Hundreds gathered Sunday afternoon, wrapping around the block at Capitol and 20th to get tested for COVID-19 at the Midtown restaurant, The Waterboy. The testing site was specifically set up for restaurant industry workers and their families. Shantha Mathews, a Sacramento-area server at two restaurants has been out of work for two weeks, she said she took a COVID-19 test five days ago at another site but hasn't received results back, and can't go back to work without testing negative. Owner Rick Mahan said The Waterboy will remain available as a COVID-19 testing site for restaurant workers until there's no longer a need. (KCRA3)
- Over the past week, California has announced more efforts to combat COVID-19 as omicron cases surge. Here's what the state has done in the past week. California Health and Human Services Agency Secretary Dr. Mark Ghaly announced Wednesday, Jan. 5 that the previous month-long indoor mask mandate was extended. Gov. Gavin Newsom said on Friday, Jan. 7 that about 200 California National Guard members are being deployed to testing sites to expand testing capacity. Newsom's office said Saturday, Jan. 8 that the administration wants to spend another $2.7 billion on coronavirus testing and hospital staffing. And, lastly, to protect Californians against price gouging at-home COVID-19 test kits, Gov. Gavin Newsom signed an executive order Saturday, Jan. 8 putting consumer protections in place. (ABC10)
- Saturday morning, an inmate at the California State Prison in Folsom was found dead in his cell. After being found by guards, life-saving measures were taken. However, they were unable to revive the man. An investigation is underway to determine the cause of death. (CBS Sacramento)
