CalKIDS Scholarship Month Launches in San Bernardino County to Help More Students Claim Scholarships (sb-american.com) — If you have a child in San Bernardino County public schools, they may be eligible for up to $1,500 from the CalKIDS scholarship program, with nearly $162 million available locally. Throughout September, schools will host on‑campus events to help families check eligibility and claim funds, or you can confirm online anytime using your student's Statewide Student Identifier.
2. Update: Helen Fire in San Bernardino County now brought under 100% containment (sacbee.com) — Fire crews have fully contained the small Helen Fire that broke out near Glen Helen Road and Glen Helen Park Road in Devore, in San Bernardino County. The one‑acre wildfire is now ringed by control lines, meaning it's no longer expected to spread, though pockets may continue burning within the perimeter while firefighters work toward full control.
3. IE Latino Voices: Mexico's Cónsul in San Bernardino (kvcrnews.org) — San Bernardino's Mexican consulate is marking 96 years of serving Mexican and Mexican American residents across the Inland Empire, including many mixed‑status families. In a recent interview, Consul Salvador Percastre highlighted legal assistance, detention‑center visits, and growing partnerships with local institutions as key ways the consulate supports and protects the community today and into the next generation.
4. IE Advocates Demand Greater Oversight on Warehouses (iecn.com) — San Bernardino County residents are at the center of a growing fight over warehouse pollution, as the Inland Empire now hosts more than a billion square feet of logistics space and ranks among the nation's most polluted areas. Advocates are pressing air‑quality regulators for tougher enforcement, clearer penalties, and more community input on how warehouse emissions rules are implemented and penalty funds are spent.
