Man Killed In City Heights Shooting; Assailant At Large
Following the shooting, the unidentified assailant, described as a teenage boy or young man, ran off to the north, police said.
SAN DIEGO, CA — A shooting in a neighborhood near Manzanita Canyon Tuesday left a 35-year-old man dead.
The fatal gunfire was reported shortly after 11 a.m. in the 3200 block of 40th Street, north of Redwood Street and just east of state Route 15 in the Castle area of City Heights, according to the San Diego Police Department.
Following the shooting, the unidentified assailant, described as a teenage boy or young man in a blue hooded sweatshirt, ran off to the north, police said.

Patrol personnel arrived to find a witness a giving first aid to the victim, who was lying in a residential front yard with a gunshot wound to his upper body, SDPD Lt. Jud Campbell said.
Officers took over the lifesaving attempts prior to the arrival of paramedics, who took the man to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead. His name was withheld pending family notification.

It was unclear what prompted the shooting.
"It is still early in the investigation, and detectives are currently canvassing the area, looking for any potential evidence (and) witnesses who may be able to assist in solving this crime," Campbell said in the late afternoon.
