1-Year-Old Accidentally Shot And Killed By 3-Year-Old Sibling ID'd
An autopsy determined the cause of death was a gunshot wound to the head.
FALLBROOK, CA — Authorities have identified the 1-year-old girl accidentally shot and killed by her 3-year-old sibling earlier this week in northern San Diego County.
The accidental shooting was reported at 7:30 a.m. Monday at a home in the 1100 block of South Stagecoach Lane in Fallbrook. Deputies discovered that a 3-year-old got a hold of an unsecured handgun and accidentally shot their 1-year-old sister in the head, according to the San Diego County Sheriff's Department.

Jessa Osmera was taken to Palomar Hospital, but she was pronounced dead at about 8:30 a.m. despite lifesaving efforts, sheriff's Lt. Joseph Jarjura said.
"The sheriff's department extends our sympathies to the family and those affected by her death," Jarjura said.

An autopsy determined the cause of death was a gunshot wound to the head. The death was ruled as a homicide, according to the San Diego County Medical Examiner's Office.
No other family members were injured. No arrests have been made, Jarjura said. The name of the 3-year-old was not released.
"Sheriff's homicide investigators are working to gather more information to determine the circumstances of the death," Jarjura said. "The investigation is ongoing."
