19-Year-Old Fatally Shot Near San Diego Trolley Station ID'd
Detectives said several people may have witnessed an altercation that preceded the shooting.
SAN DIEGO, CA — A 19-year-old man who was shot Friday night near the Grantville Trolley Station has been identified as Deandre Towers of San Diego, police said.
Officers responded at 10:23 p.m. Friday to reports of a shooting in the 4500 block of Alvarado Canyon Road, outside the Union Grantville apartment complex, according to the San Diego Police Dpartment. When officers arrived, they found evidence of a shooting but no victim at the scene.
At the same time, police received a separate report of a single-vehicle crash in the 6900 block of Mission Gorge Road. Officers responding to the collision found Towers in the back seat of the vehicle suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.

The driver, who was not injured, told officers he was taking Towers from the apartment complex to a hospital when the crash happened, according to police.
Paramedics took Towers to a local trauma center, where he later died from his injuries.

The department's Homicide Unit is investigating the case. Detectives said several people may have witnessed an altercation that preceded the shooting and are asking anyone with information to come forward.
